FIELDWORK TASK 1

For the first fieldwork assignment Task 1 we had to interview a teacher.  I interviewed Mrs. S, a third grade self contained teacher.  The love, passion, dedication, and motivation really shows through when she talks about her students.  Mrs. S has been with the same students for three years now.  Since teaching them in the first grade she has looped up with them and is about to finish her third year with them.  She told the excitement she and her students have about having her next year when they enter fourth grade.  Really knowing her students and what specific needs they have makes her a great educator.  She has built a bond with them, which has allowed them to trust her.  She creates a safe and positive learning environment, that allows her students to grow.

·      What effective teaching principles do you follow to reach every child in your classroom?
o   I place my students into small groups to allow them to work stronger through peer reinforcement.
o   I teach using Blooms Taxonomy using higher-level thinking.
o   I use differentiated instruction to reach all my students, no matter what level they are learning at.

·      What latest research are you referring to in your teaching design.
o   This year I have had a lot of success with using Fundations with my students.  Many of them have struggled a lot with spelling, but using the tiles during their spelling activities have really helped.
