Resources for setting academic goals.

Social bookmarking tools can assist students with setting academic goals.  Some of the helpful sites that I browsed through were Pinterest and Digg.  Pinterest is an all around helpful site for all ages.  It has tutorials, pictures, guides, and recipes about every topic and subject you can think of.

Here is a link to some helpful tags I saw on pinterest

Looking through Digg I also found many interesting articles and links for students and adults to both view.  I really enjoyed browsing through it.

Here is an interesting link to an article that I found.

Evaluate
Modeling is an important behavior to demonstrate to all students.  This is the most efficient and best way to ensure that students are grasping information in a positive manner.  For example here is a link on a how to video for making the perfect grilled cheese sandwich.
Grilledcheese.  In this video you are shown step-by-step just how to make the perfect grilled cheese from start to finish, including all the necessary ingredients.

Another helpful modeling link that I found was on brushing your teeth.
TEETH.  This was a really entertaining and helpful kid friendly video that discussed all the importances of brushing your teeth.  It gave a great tutorial that was easy to follow along with.

Relate

Social networking such facebook, myspace, and twitter provide an immediate connection to technology for our children.  THese social networking sites have a minimum age requirement for a reason.  Children at a young age are easily influenced by the media and are an easy target for negative repercussions such self-esteem.  It is important that we regulate what our students are being allowed to use and closely monitor their involvement.  I believe technology and the internet are an extremely helpful tool when used correctly.  However, I personally would not want my child using social media without being closely monitored by myself.  Once something is posted on the internet it is out there for everyone to see and in most cases can’t be taken back.  That’s why it is very important to think before you act because you don’t know who it can damage once you put it out there.
