Cluster 14

This assignment was teaching from different perspectives.  We had to create an assignment that gave students step by step instructions on how to complete a task.  The second process was to give the students the same assignment using a behaviorist or constructivist approach.  I chose a constructivist approach like Jerome Bruner to complete this assignment.

My assignment for my students would be steps in order to brush your teeth.  Using the direct instruction approach he steps for doing so would be as follows:CER_14c.png

  1. Take out your toothbrush.
  2. Take out your toothpaste.
  3. Turn on the water.
  4. Place your toothbrush under the water and wet it.
  5. Open up the toothpaste and squeeze a small amount onto your tooth brush.
  6. Begin brushing your teeth by moving the tooth brush back and forth over your teeth.
  7. Once you have done so on all of your teeth spit the toothpaste out.
  8. Then put some water into your mouth and swish it around and spit it out.
  9. Repeat this step until all of the toothpaste is out of your mouth.
  10. Clean the toothpaste off of your toothbrush.

During this class I studied about Jerome Bruner and the constructivist approach.  I really enjoyed his views on teaching students and allowing them to find their own way.  Using this approach would give the students the necessary materials for brushing their teeth and then allow them to figure out the process on their own.  Students need to feel that they can act and figure things out on their own.
